Ken Medlin The Haddon Township Cross Country and Track teams have a long and illustrious history. Many would say that this history began with Ken Medlin. His distinguishing characteristic was a powerful kick that left many a competitor in his dust. A member of the class of 1970, Ken was the leader of all three squads for most of his high school career. As a cross-country runner in the fall and two miler in the winter and spring, Ken did not lose a dual meet after his freshman year. His lengthy list of cross-country successes included wins in the Colonial Conference Championship (2 times) and included 3 state titles. In the winter he twice was state champion and set a record with a 9:13.0 two mile effort. In the spring, he teamed with Frank Romero, Fred Weber and Wayne Merkh to set the South Jersey two mile relay record. The same foursome also captured the championship in the mile relay at the prestigious Penn Relays. As an individual, he won three Colonial Conference titles, three sectional titles, three more state championships and twice won the Meet of Champions, a title that proved him the best two miler in the State. In 1996, Ken’s great career was recognized by the Courier Post who named him as one of the All-Century runners in Cross Country. Ken now lives in Palm Bay, Florida with his wife Karen and children Kimberly (21) and Derek (18.) |
