Steve Flacco In the late seventies, the name most closely associated with Hawk athletics was Steve Flacco. Steve starred on both the football and baseball squads earning a total of seven Varsity letters. As a hard running halfback and hard hitting defensive back, he led the Hawks to new heights of success on the gridiron. For his efforts he was named all-conference, all Group II and All-South Jersey and was honored by the Brooks-Irvine Football Club as the Defensive back of the year in 1978. His achievements on the diamond are equally if not more impressive. He led his team to two Colonial Conference Championships and, in his senior year, capped off an outstanding career with a State Group II championship. For his efforts he was also named to the All-Conference, All-Group II and All South Jersey squads. In 1979, the Hot Stovers Baseball Club named him the Player of the Year. Steve continued his success in college, competing for the University of Pennsylvania where he earned All-Ivy honors in both sports. He is currently married, lives in Audubon with his six children (including son Joe, who was recently named to the All South Jersey football team as a quarterback) and still follows Hawk sports teams although he admits to rooting against the Red and White when they play the Green Wave.
