Jeff Gurtcheff

Looking across the mat or field, opposing players did not want to see Jeff Gurtcheff. Whether the sport was football, wrestling or baseball, they knew they were in for a long day. On the gridiron, Jeff was a hard running halfback, earning numerous awards including being named to the All-South Jersey honors in his senior year when he led his team to a Colonial Conference Championship. In the winter, Jeff made major contributions to Coach Miller Preston’s annual powerhouse. Baseball, however, was Jeff’s strongest sport. He again received many honors including All Conference, All Group II and All South Jersey. He continued his excellent play at the University of Iowa, where he was a four year letter winner. Jeff still holds the record for highest career batting average, batting .400 throughout his career. Following graduation, he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates and played two years of minor league ball. He also was selected for the Pan American Games baseball squad.

Jeff now lives in The Woodlands, Texas with his wife Judy and sons, Christopher and David.
