Ed Haughey Late in the 1989 season, Coach Frank Trautz’s Hawks faced a critical tournament game and Coach Trautz needed a starting pitcher. He turned to sophomore Ed Haughey who used a devastating curveball to lead the team to victory. By the time he finished his career, Ed was known as one of the best pitchers ever to pitch for the Hawks and certainly the pitcher the team wanted on the mound for a big game. While also contributing to the team as a third baseman and outfielder, Ed used his excellent command of his pitch location to frustrate opposing hitters. He was so successful that he was named to both the All Colonial Conference and All Group teams in both his junior and senior years. He was also selected to play in the prestigious Carpenter Cup in both of those years. An excellent student (and valedictorian of his high school class), Ed continued his education at the University of Pennsylvania where he was named the 1995 Ivy League pitcher of the year and the South Jersey Division 1 college player of the year along with earning Academic All American honors. After graduating from Penn Magna cum Laude, he continued his education at the College of William and Mary where he earned his J.D. Ed currently lives and works in Washington, D.C. at a patent attorney. |
