Bill Schmidt In 2002, the Senior Class of HTHS was asked to write an essay about a person who “makes a difference.” Almost 10% of the class chose Bill Schmidt as such a person. His selection as the community representative in this year’s HTHS Athletic Hall of Fame reinforces this perception. Following a very successful career in football and track at Collingswood High School, Bill began an avocation of service as a volunteer with the Oaklyn Cougars youth football program. His selfless activities continued in his stints as a volunteer track coach at Paul VI and Collingswood High Schools where he became known as a man who would always help athletes from many area high schools besides his own, always with no compensation. In the mid 1980’s Bill took a job in the Haddon Township School District. Since then, Bill has been a tremendous role model to thousands of Haddon Township students. In this role, he is as a confidant and mentor in building the character and self confidence of his students and is arguably the most well known and respected person in Haddon Township High School. |
