Scott MacDonald

The first athletic program to gain notoriety in Haddon Township was the wrestlers. One person who helped Coach Miller Preston establish the Hawk grapplers was Scott MacDonald. A 1968 graduate, Scott went undefeated through the dual meet season three years in succession. He combined his unusual strength with a hardworking ethic to become both a Christmas tournament and district champion. In addition to his prowess on the mat, Scott also was a contributor to the Cross Country and baseball teams. He was the first Township athlete to earn the coveted gold shorts and he was a major contributor to the early Hawk physical fitness teams. These teams captured championships in both South Jersey and Tri-County physical fitness competitions, defeating as many as 60 teams on some occasions. After attending Glassboro State College, he embarked on a career in education, teaching in the Gloucester City and Edgewater Park school districts before landing his current position as an elementary principal in Deptford. Scott still lives in South Jersey and he is the proud father of his children Meredith, Ian and Jeanne as well as the grandfather of Dylan.
