John Horn

In the inaugural season of Haddon Township football in 1964, a large freshman named John Horn earned a starting spot on the line after competing with many older players. By the time he graduated in 1968, his strength and technique had developed to where he was named a tri-captain in his senior year as well as being named an All- Conference tackle in 1967. He continued his career at Catawba College in North Carolina where he was a four year letterman, earning accolades for All Conference in 1970 and All NAIA district in 1971. His play was so stellar that he signed a free agent contract with the Dallas Cowboys in 1972. Football was not the only sport, however, in which John participated. In addition to playing basketball and golf early in his career, as a  junior, he decided to become a member of the track and field team and in 1968, set a shot put record that stood until the mid 1990’s. In recognition of his achievements, the Philadelphia Bulletin presented him with their scholar-athlete award in 1968. Retired after a long career with the public schools in the State of Delaware, John remains active as a tennis player and resides in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania with his wife LaFran and daughter Veronica.
