Ed Blakely
In 2002, the 1972-73 boys cross country received the honor of being the first team inducted into the Haddon Township Athletic Hall of Fame. Today, Ed Blakely becomes the second member of the team to be inducted as an individual. A skinny sophomore in 1972, Ed matured into a dominating runner who received ten Varsity letters in cross country, indoor and outdoor track. On the track, he competed in distance events, primarily the 880, mile and two mile runs where he turned in performances that rank in the top three of all time Haddon Township efforts. He earned numerous championships in major meets including the NJ State championship in the two mile in 1975 and the Eastern US Cross Country championship in Van Cortland Park in NY in 1974. He continued his career at Arizona State University where he contributed to the team’s 1977 National championship as a miler, notching a personal best of 4.04. Following graduation, Ed has had a very successful career in sales and after numerous moves around the country, has returned to New Jersey. He now lives in Somerset where he is actively involved with the athletic pursuits of his sons Keenan, Austin and Ryan.
