1988 Boys Cross Country Team The late 1980’s have been described as the heyday of South Jersey Cross Country. In the USA Today 1988 national rankings, three South Jersey Schools occupied spots in the top twenty, including Haddon Township. For their excellence that year’s boys’ cross country team has been selected for induction into the HT Athletic Hall of Fame. Led by Coach Tom Priory, the Hawks dominated local competition, marching past Colonial Conference opponents undefeated. Proving that out of state teams were no match for these harriers, in October they captured the Eastern State Championship in New York. They then moved onto the South Jersey championship Group I Sectional Championships where they proved that other local schools were no hurdle as the Hawks thrashed their competition. In doing so, Haddon Township became the first school to win sectional championships in three different groups (Group III in 1968 and Group I in 1971, 1972, 1976, 1985 and 1986.) The Hawks met stiffer competition in the State Group I race but capped the season by defeating perennial powerhouse Bernards which had won the previous 14 titles. The team was led by All South Jersey and All State runners David Donahue and Jason Fiscus who received strong support from All Group I runners Matt Martin and Kirk Earney. Other team members who contributed points or other contributions to the Hawks’ success were Greg Lopez, Greg Hollows, Marc Walker, Neil Evans, Dan Adams and Rosie Mackintosh.
