1965 Girls Softball Team West Jersey League opponents welcomed new school Haddon Township into their fold in the early 60’s. It didn’t take long for the Hawks to wear out their welcome. Led by Coach Jennie Capano and Assistant coach Barbara Fritsche, the Hawks captured three consecutive championships. Arguably the strongest of these teams was the undefeated squad of 1965. In an era when ten players comprised a team (a shortfielder who normally played behind second base was added to the defensive positioning), the Hawks used a combination of strong pitching, timely hitting and superior defense to dominate their foes. The season was capped off with an exciting victory against Audubon in the final game of the season that clinched the league title. The team was led by co-captains Diane Wright and Judy Mitten Quinton with Diane Wright being named the team’s MVP. Other members of the team include Dorothy Helm, Dorothy Justice Senatore, Margie McCourt Wainwright, Nancy Porter Engman, Barbara Noll Cunane, Sue Olcott Tharp, Barbara Wright Bergman, Barbara Danner Dougherty, Peggy Olsen, Ree Marie Petracci and Manager Mindy King.
