Mark Ritter

In recent years, the HT Athletic Hall of Fame has inducted Frank Knoll, Frank Cunane and John Horn all of whom helped lay the groundwork for Haddon Twp. boys’ basketball. Tonight’s inductee, Mark Ritter, benefitted from their efforts and just as importantly from the coaching of John McCarthy to help raise the Hawks to be one of the elite teams in South Jersey. Teaming with All South Jersey player Chris Wlaz, Mark helped lead the team from a record of 4-17 in1967-68 to a sparkling 20-6 finish in 1969-70, a season that ended with a heartbreaking loss to Haddon Heights in the South Jersey final. Following graduation, Mark attended the College of William and Mary where he was a three year letter winner and captain of the team in his senior year. Following graduation, he was a biology teacher and basketball coach at Collingswood High School, where he served thirteen years as head basketball coach. Until recently, he had held the record for the most career wins at the school. He left the teaching and coaching profession in 1989 to become a school business administrator. He returned to Haddon Township in that capacity in 1994 and recently retired from the profession. He and his wife Sandy, a Hall of Famer in her own right, live in Medford and are the proud parents of son Chris and daughters Amy and Katie.
