Glenn Gurtcheff

One of the mantras that coaches everywhere preach is that you can’t teach a player to be smart. This was not a problem for Coaches Tom Curley and Frank Trotman when it came to Glenn Gurtcheff. One of the main reasons why the football program improved in the late seventies, Glenn was a fleet halfback and defensive back who never had to be given instructions more than once. He earned three Varsity letters and was named captain in his senior year. Glenn received post season recognition as All Conference and he is believed to have been named to the All South Jersey Group II team in his senior year. In the springtime, Glenn was an outstanding outfielder on the baseball field in both his junior and senior seasons.
As proof of his intelligence, Glenn was the valedictorian of the Class of 1978. He too graduated summa cum laude from college, first as an undergraduate from the University of Notre Dame and then with a masters degree from the University of Minnesota, with both degrees being in mechanical engineering. He completed his education with an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, again receiving highest honors. While in college, he turned his athletic attention to rugby and his teams at each institution benefitted from his skills as both a player and a leader.
Glenn chose to return to Minnesota as a professional where he now works as a managing director of an investment banking firm. He and his wife Jane, have two children, Alexia and Matthew.
