Jim Elwell

It is only fitting that the inductee following Kirk is his aforementioned coach, Jim Elwell. Jim became a part of the Hawk track program soon after beginning his teaching career in Haddon Twp. in 1975. After serving one year as an assistant in the spring program, he assumed the helm of the winter program in 1976. In 1982 he added the head coaching position of the spring squad to his duties and held on to the position for fifteen years. In that period he coached many outstanding athletes and had successful teams, most notably the 1989 undefeated Colonial Conference, SJ Group I champions and the 1991 Group I and Penn Relays 4X400 champs.
In addition to his coaching highlights, Jim is proud of having started the annual elementary school field day where students from the five district elementary schools compete in a variety of athletic activities and learn the values of competition and camaraderie. Jim retired from teaching in 2007, and lives in Moorestown with his wife Marcy. He notes with pride that they have raised three successful young adults, Peter, Jared and Meredith.
